Women's report | Wolves 4-0 Huddersfield

Wolves Women 4 (Fergusson 1, Toussaint 27, Wilson 31, Will 38) Huddersfield Town 0

Wolves Women scored four first half goals to claim a convincing victory over Huddersfield Town at the New Bucks Head.

It was a dream start to the afternoon as, almost from kick-off, Wolves capitalised on a defensive error as Destiney Toussaint received the ball before sliding Liv Fergusson through on goal who opened the scoring after 20 seconds.

Merrick Will nearly doubled the score moments later as Anna Morphet found her in a pocket of space just outside the box but her effort bounced behind the keeper before going out for a goal kick.

Dan McNamara’s side continued to dominate proceedings, with Huddersfield’s only opportunity of the opening 20 minutes coming from a free-kick from around 40 yards from goal but Shan Turner was equal to the effort.

Turner was also forced into a good save as a long goal kick forwards found Kate Mallin who looked to drive goalwards before getting her shot off but Turner got a hand to it to divert it away from goal and out for a corner.

Fergusson continued to cause problems down the right-hand side and her persistence paid off as she played Toussaint through on goal. She calmly took the ball around the keeper before slotting it home past a sliding defender.

There was a break in play with the Terriers keeper receiving treatment following the second but the third goal followed almost immediately after the restart as Ellie Wilson rose highest in the box to head home from Morphet’s corner.

The Old Gold continued to run rampant at the New Bucks Head as a clearance fell to Will who was waiting on the edge of the box and she caught it sweetly on the half volley to add the fourth goal of the afternoon.

Half-time | Wolves Women 4-0 Huddersfield Town Women

Wolves’ first change of the afternoon came at the break as Hannah Fryer came on in place of Beth Roberts.

The first real opportunity of the half came from a free-kick as Tammi George was fouled just outside the box. Beth Merrick sent a deep cross into the box where Imogen Maguire could punch the ball away for a corner which came to nothing.

George had a half chance of her own around the hour mark as she found space outside the box but her left footed effort curled into the hands of Maguire.

The fifth goal nearly followed as George regained the ball after a misplaced goal kick. It fell to Fergusson whose powerful effort cannoned off Maguire before Toussaint reacted first to the rebound, but her effort rifled over the crossbar.

New signing Ania Denham and Jade Cross were introduced in place of Sophie Bramford and Emma Cross with 20 minutes left on the clock.

The visitors limited chances for McNamara’s side as the half ticked by as they defended in numbers to cancel out any attacks. George won a free-kick 30 yards from goal with five minutes left to play but Morphet’s effort was well over the crossbar.
