Dan McNamara was ‘proud’ of the performance of his players, despite Wolves Women exiting the League Cup at Nottingham Forest.
The manager was pleased with how his side competed and felt they deserved more from the game, which ended 2-0 in favour of Forest. Ahead of Sunday’s return to league action against Huddersfield Town at the New Bucks Head, McNamara has switched his focus to tackling the Terriers in a game he believes will put Wolves to the test.
On the Nottingham Forest game
“I’m really proud and I thought the girls were fantastic. We’ve switched off for the first goal and the game is decided by moments of quality – Forest had their moments of quality and took them.
“We had several moments of quality and unfortunately didn’t take them. I thought we were outstanding in big parts of the game.
“We threw everything at Forest and penned them in at times, especially in the first half. I thought they were outstanding.
“I’m delighted with the girls – the togetherness and how much they’ve put into that.
“On a different day, I think we probably make a couple of chances, convert them and it’s a different story.”
On competing with the best teams
“These (Nottingham Forest) are fantastic and they’ve been fantastic for years. If you look at the players they’ve got on the pitch, they’re a phenomenal group, but so are we.
“I think we proved that today. We’re very much in and amongst the top group of players within this league.”
On Huddersfield next up
“Huddersfield have had a good result against Stourbridge, they’ve travelled down there and won 2-0.
“It will be tough. The Huddersfield gaffer sets them up in a certain way and does his homework to make sure they’re effective with the players they’ve got available.
“We’ll have to study hard this week and make sure we’re switched on. Hopefully we get a reaction like we did last week.”
