Women's preview | Nottingham Forest vs Wolves

Wolves Women are in FA Women’s National League Cup action at Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

In a break from the league, Dan McNamara’s side will turn their attention to the first round tie in a competition they reached the final four in last season.

Wolves ensured they would be competing in the League Cup following an emphatic 11-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles at Compton Park in August.

The Old Gold returned to winning ways with a 5-0 success over AFC Fylde last weekend, a result that lifted the team into second place in the league table.

Meanwhile, hosts Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a similar start to the season and sit just one place and one point below Wolves in the Northern Premier Division having played a game less.

Carly Davies’ side were 5-0 victors at Solihull Moors in the last round, but come into the game on the back of a 4-2 defeat at Burnley two weeks ago.

Sunday’s cup tie is a battle between the top two sides in the division last season, as Forest narrowly edged out McNamara’s team on goal difference to win the league title before the Reds lost in the play-off final against Watford to miss out on promotion to the Championship.

On their last visit to Forest, Wolves were 4-2 winners in the league thanks to goals from Maz Gauntlett, Amber Hughes (2) and Katie Johnson.
