Following two successful seasons with Wolves, Laura Cooper has taken the decision to leave the club due to work commitments.
The 28-year-old has featured across several different positions during her two years in the women’s first-team and played an important role in helping the team to 2021/22 FAWNL Northern Premier Division glory as well as successive Birmingham County Cup titles.
Since joining Wolves in the summer of 2021, Cooper has been balancing a career in the police force with her gold and black duties, but she has now told manager Dan McNamara that she will not be able to pledge her time to the club going forward.
McNamara explained: “Coops found the balance between her work commitments and football commitments difficult last season and even though we try to help our players as much as we can with this, there comes a time when they have to put their careers and family life first.
“She’ll be a big miss to the team as she’s been unbelievable for two seasons and has been a huge part of the success we’ve had during this time.”
The former Aston Villa and Coventry United player has been a regular in the first-team since she arrived from Boldmere St Michaels, making more than 60 appearances and scoring twice.
McNamara reserved praise for Cooper’s attitude during her time at the club, both on and off the pitch, as he wished her the very best for the future.
“She’s got very high personal standards, the girls love her, and she’s been an important part of the group,” he added. “But as well as being a great character, she’s also a utility player who has always done a fantastic job wherever you ask her to play, whether it’s out wide, in central midfield or at centre-half, which is a great asset for a manager to have.
“She’s really well-respected here and has made a lot of friends at Wolves, so it’ll be sad to see her go. She will be a big loss to the dressing room, but her career in the police has to come first.
“But whichever club ends up getting her signature next will be really lucky because she’s an outstanding person and player.”
