Cross has fond memories of that FA Cup upset and ahead of Sunday’s League Cup semi-final at Grosvenor Vale, has explained that the mindset is to win every game. A place in the final against either Portsmouth or Nottingham Forest would await the victors on the weekend, but Cross knows that Watford will prove stern opposition.
On the feeling going into a semi-final
“It’s brilliant. It’s a big thing being in a semi-final, so it’s positive and we’re really looking forward to it.
“We’ve had league games in between then (the quarter-final) and now, so we’ve focused on each game as it’s come.
“Now it’s around, it’s really exciting and we’re looking forward to it again.”
On winning and scoring at Watford in 2021
“It was brilliant. It was one of those games during lockdown when we weren’t able to play that often.
“To go and win 4-1 against Watford when, at the time, we were tier four and they were a tier three side, it was brilliant and a great day.
“We were the underdogs so to go there and beat them 4-1 was just amazing.
“I think I got a bit lucky (with the goal). The goalkeeper knocked it off me and I was able to tap it into an open goal. It was good to get the opening goal.”

On the mindset heading into the game
“We want to win everything we go into. We want to compete and win the league, we want to win as many cups as we can and hopefully Sunday’s a step towards that.
“They’re a really good side. We’re expecting them to be tough, really good going forward and it will be a really tough game come Sunday.
“It would be amazing (to get into the final). We want to get into every final we can and we’ve never got this far in the League Cup, so it would be amazing to get to the final and hopefully win it from there.”
On having the backing of travelling fans
“The supporters have helped us through the majority of games this season, especially at home and at games like West Ham where it was unbelievable having so many people there.
“Hopefully we can get as many people there on Sunday to support us.”
