Price and her team mates were left without a fixture on their final match day of the old year when Long Eaton pulled out of a key clash between the promotion rivals because they were unable to field a full team.
Victory at Castlecroft would have given top of the table Wolves a clear lead as the division closed down for the Christmas/New Year break and Price said: “It was annoying as well as frustrating when we were told the Long Eaton game was off.
“We’d been working hard towards it and we knew we could put ourselves in a great position if we’d beaten them. Now we’ve got another league game added to our backlog after postponements because of Cup commitments.
“I suppose you have to say, ‘it is what it is’ when a game is called off for the reason this one was, but at the level of football that we’re playing at I don’t think we should be getting these sorts of issues.”
With two league games already pushed back following postponements Wolves have to date played only nine of their Division 1 Midlands fixtures, losing just one and winning the other eight to start the new year in pole position.
They are generally acknowledged as favourites to take the title but, as the winners of the division are the only team to be awarded promotion, there is no room for error – as Price readily admits and indeed emphasises.
“We’ve got to maintain our focus game by game,” said the skipper. “There’s a number of teams below who can challenge, including Birmingham & West Midlands who are just a couple of points behind and could be dangerous.
“Then there are sides like Long Eaton, TNS and also Bedworth, who couldn’t scrape a win in their first few matches but then won six on the bounce before Christmas to put themselves right in contention.
“So we can’t rest on our laurels, and there’s no way we’re going to do that. As a group we are absolutely determined to make sure there are no more slip-ups and that we’ll end the season with our aim of promotion achieved.”
