Wolves Women 3 (Morphet 45, Anslow 75, Jones 83)
Manchester United Women U19s 0
The somewhat dominant display gave Wolves their third victory of pre-season as they look to hit the ground running in the Women’s Premier League Division One.
In an even start to the game, the first chance fell to Man United but it was easily dealt with by Maddie Elbro in the Wolves goal.
Wolves grew into the game and firmly got themselves on the front foot but were unable to make all of their pressure count until Anna Morphet gave them the lead on the stroke of half-time. She stepped up and hammered in a free-kick from around 25 yards into the top corner.
The goal came after Natalie Widdal headed over from a corner and Billie Haynes drew a good save out of the Man United goalkeeper from a well-struck volley.
The second-half followed the same fashion as the first, with Wolves being the dominant team and creating most of the goal scoring chances.
Despite having much of the ball, Wolves were struggling to create a clear goal scoring chance, that was until Jen Anslow doubled the hosts’ lead.
A well worked move by Widdle, Criddle and Whetton saw the latter’s cross fall to the feet of Anslow, her first shot was well saved by the Man United goalkeeper but she was on hand to tap in the rebound and put Wolves 2-0 up.
Wolves’ dominance was soon emphasised further when Morphet’s free kick from the left was headed in at the back post by Courtney Jones.
Wolves Women manager Dan McNamara said: ‘’ Tonight was a fantastic occasion for the club. To play any Manchester United team is always special. The girls picked up where we left off on Sunday. I thought we were excellent and it shows how far we’ve come over pre-season. Thanks to all the supporters who came to the game. Hopefully we will see more of you during the season.
