Wolves 1 (Angel 48) Millwall 1 (Baker 88)
Wolves under-21s were forced to settle for a draw in the Premier League Cup against Millwall at The Den on Friday evening.
Dani Angel’s fantastic solo goal broke the deadlock for the Old Gold, but Frankie Baker’s composed finish denied Wolves of the result they desired.
McKenzie Bradbury showed early signs of promise for the young Wolves, the number six struck the crossbar in the opening minute with an audacious effort.
Fletcher Holman’s chipped cross found the head of Angel, who failed to find the target with his header, but James Collins’ side were edging closer to an opener.
George Evans pushed away a low-driven strike from Tom Edozie moments later.
The hosts slowly began to create some momentum going forward, but each time Wolves broke them down, they looked extremely dangerous on the counterattack with Ethan Sutherland and Angel often being the outlet.
Wolves eventually broke the deadlock in additional minutes of the first half when Angel’s individual brilliance showed when he danced past four Millwall players and slotted his strike through the legs of Evans.
Half-time | Millwall 0-1 Wolves
Shortly after the restart, Edozie’s cross found Angel inside the area and his hooked volley looked destined for the back of the net.
Unfortunately for the Spaniard, his effort struck the crossbar with no Wolves player able to secure the rebound.
Substitute Matheus Mane was the driving force in Wolves’ attacking opportunities in the second half and posed active threat on the right-hand side.
Goalkeeper Lewys Benjamin remained reliable when he denied Frankie Baker from close-range.
Against the run of play, Baker got Millwall level in the closing stages.
Mane, who was a shining light for Wolves, received a red card after picking up a second yellow in additional time.
It was a game which Wolves showed plenty their quality and were unfortunate to not secure more goals to show for it.
Collins' side will now turn their attention to Monday evenings fixture against RB Leipzig in the PL International Cup at the SEAH Stadium.
Full-time | Millwall 1-1 Wolves
