U21 report | Wolves 3-1 Blackburn

Wolves 3 (Mane 12, Sutherland 84, Edozie 90+3) Blackburn Rovers 1 (Wood 22)

Wolves extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League 2 following a 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers on Friday evening.

In a challenging game for the young Wolves, their resilience prevailed once again with Ethan Sutherland and Tom Edozie both finding the net in the final minutes.

Dani Angel was first to test Nicholas Michalski in the early exchanges, but his chance was collected comfortably by the number one.

Wolves broke the deadlock on the 12th minute with a lightning fast counter attack.

Pedro Lima released Dani Angel on the right-hand side, who played the ball into Tawanda Chirewa and finally across the Mane - his curled effort found the back of the net.

Wolves were in full swing going forward when Chirewa’s effort was superbly denied by Michalski minutes later.

Despite their control in the game, the visitors equalised through Brandon Powell when he stabbed the ball home at the back post.

Chirewa was lively for the young Wolves and drove Collins’ side forward a variety of times moments after conceding but failed to regain the Old Gold’s advantage before the interval.

The hosts continued to show promising signs going forward and remained persistent, but Rovers done well to deny any threat.

In an even game, the hosts had to remain disciplined in the second half with their defensive duties with Alfie Pond and Olagunju playing key roles on the right-hand side.

Wolves never looked like settling for a point, and for the third game in a row found the net in the final ten minutes.

Luke Rawling’s original attempt struck the outside of the post, with Michalski scrambling to reach the effort, Sutherland was in the perfect position to pass the ball into the opposite corner and regain Wolves’ advantage.

Wes Okoduwa made a vital contribution to keep Wolves lead at bay, Ojinnaka was pick pocketed in the final minutes and with the goal gaping at two of the Blackburn Rovers forwards’ - it was Okoduwa’s clearance that was pivotal.

Edozie relieved all the defensive pressure from the hosts when he added a third goal with a calmly slotted finish in the final minutes to secure all three points for Wolves.
