Boreham Wood 4 (Norris 1’, Richardson 43’, Benton 56’, Booty 91’) Wolves 0
Wolves under-21s suffered defeat against Boreham Wood in the National League Cup on Tuesday evening.
In Wolves' final game of the National League Cup this season, two goals in either half goals from Boreham Wood created the difference between the two sides.
Luke Norris and Lewis Richardson were first to strike for the hosts, before finishes from Jon Benton and Regan Booty extended the lead.
The hosts took an early lead when Norris’ strike found the bottom corner from close range.
Wolves eventually began to grow into the game as the minutes ticked on, Fletcher Holman’s low cross eventually reached Dani Angel in a promising position, but his effort failed to test Ted Curd.
Lewis Richardson was next to cause worry on Benjamin’s goal, before the Wolves number one parried the effort wide.
Angel latched onto the end of a second opportunity on goal in the 37th minute, however, could not guide his strike on target.
Despite Wolves’ attacking promise, Richardson doubled the host’s advantage briefly before the break.
Half time | Boreham Wood 2-0 Wolves
Nine minutes after the restart, Norris missed the opportunity to extend Boreham Wood’s lead when his penalty kick struck the crossbar.
Two minutes later, despite two fantastic saves from Benjamin, Benton created an uphill task for the Old Gold when he added a third goal.
The young Wolves side continued to be resilient with the ball and try and gauge a way back into the fixture, but the experience of the hosts proved to be pivotal.
Holman was a positive side of Wolves’ performance; the forward consistently got into dangerous positions for James Collins’ side.
Booty’s low strike from distance sealed the victory for Boreham in additional time.
