Wolves Under-21s have the chance to progress to the knockout rounds of the Vertu Trophy when they travel to Salford City on Tuesday night in a 7pm kick-off.
With one match to go, the Old Gold are in a good position to qualify for the next stage but they must beat the current group leaders to have a chance to progress whilst also hoping that Stockport County do not beat Wigan Athletic.
Setting the Scene
Wolves come into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday after a goal in each half. A 1-1 draw with West Ham preceded it, as did two wins against Middlesbrough and PSV Eindhoven in league and International Cup action.
Salford are currently third in League Two and sit just three points off top spot after a 0-0 draw with Cambridge on Saturday. They’ve won both Vertu Trophy matches so far – 2-0 at Wigan and 3-1 against Stockport County.
Last Time Out in the Vertu Trophy
Mateus Mane’s late penalty secured a 2-1 win at Wigan in the second group stage game. Tom Edozie scored before Asamoah Jr levelled up before Mane slotted home the spot kick.
