Middlesbrough 0-1 (Angel 76’) Wolves

Wolves under-21s earned a deserved victory over Middlesbrough in the Premier League 2 on Friday evening.

After a thoroughly dominant performance throughout the 90 minutes, Wolves eventually found the net in the closing stages with Dani Angel scoring the only goal of the game.

James Collins’ side young side had to show maturity and resilience, which was rewarded with three crucial points and a clean sheet.

The opening twenty minutes was tense between the two sides, but Wolves looked the livelier team.

Tawanda Chirewa created two opportunities for the Old Gold in the early exchanges, with both of his efforts being blocked and Alfie Pond testing Seny Dieng on one of the resulting corners.

Midway through the first half momentum was in favour of Collins’ side, who were persistent in their creation going forward.

Mateus Mane snatched at an effort from close range briefly before the break, which was denied by Dieng.

Following the restart, the one-way Old Gold traffic continued as Wolves searched for an opener.

Angel’s determination created two sights on goal, but the Spaniard failed to find the target with his efforts.

Remarkably, Angel had beaten Dieng, but his strike was cleared off the line and Wolves were forced to continue their search for that first goal.

Wolves’ dominance and persistence was eventually rewarded in the 76th minute.

Ethan Sutherland’s individual brilliance allowed him to surpass his marker before squaring the ball across to Angel who slotted his effort neatly into the bottom corner.

The victory takes Wolves into sixth place in the table, but attention will now turn to the Premier League International Cup action against PSV at the Aggborough Stadium on Tuesday 28th October.
