Kam Kandola has described it as a ‘dream’ to score against PSV under the lights at Molineux.
The defender, who has risen through the academy ranks since a young age, opened the scoring in Monday’s International Cup victory as James Collins’ side defeated the current holders. As a local lad, it was extra special for Kandola to not only win the game, but also score in front of the South Bank having progressed through the club’s system for over 10 years.
On winning at Molineux
“It was great. We all knew going into the game that it would be tough, but to play at Molineux is always a nice experience.
“To play in front of the fans and to get three points on top of it with the way we played today, I think we deserved nothing less.”
On the team performance
“Everyone was great. I think we knew if we had two or three players off it then we’d probably struggle tonight because they’re a good team.
“Everyone was at it, the players who came on were at it and for the most part we dominated the game.
“There were spells where we were under a little bit of pressure but we held our own, stood up strong to the challenge and probably made it a bit harder for ourselves than it should’ve been, but the lads were great today.”
A special night under the Molineux lights.

On sticking at it in front of goal
“We just had to keep believing that we were going to take one. We had players out there who can score goals, so the main thing was to keep creating the chances and one of them was bound to go in.
“Sometimes when you have those games you don’t concede and, especially against a good team, there’s always a chance they can punish us.
“It was good that we got a two-goal lead and then it kind of gave us a bit of security.”
On scoring the opening goal
“It was great. I haven’t scored in a while so it was nice because I like to think that’s something I can add to my game going forward.
“Especially here – I think it’s my first goal I’ve scored here so it was nice.”
On being a local lad playing at Molineux
“When you’re coming here from the age of six watching the Wolves first-team, I think the dream is to play here one day and especially in front of the fans.
“To score and get three points on top was just amazing.”
On having to see out the remaining minutes
“It was tough. Like I said, we made it harder than it should’ve been and the goal goes in which makes it tight and probably a bit nervous for some of the lads.
“We just had to stand strong and that’s what players do. We headed crosses, Temple (Ojinnaka) came on and I thought was excellent heading balls away, Justin (Hubner) with his clearances at the end – we all just stuck together and stood strong.”
On having family and friends watching
“I think a lot of the lads probably had quite a few coming down. I had family and friends here so it was nice to put on a good performance and for them to see us near to our best.
“That’s what we can do and if we can just eliminate those little 10-minute periods here and there, I think that’s how we want to play pretty much every week.”
