Under-21s captain Justin Hubner has described Molineux as ‘a special place to play’ ahead of Monday’s encounter with PSV.
Wolves host the Dutch outfit in their first Premier League International Cup fixture of the season, coming up against the current holders of the competition.
Hubner, who grew up in the Netherlands before making the move to Wolverhampton, has spoken about the dream of playing under the lights at Molineux, his previous encounters against PSV and being given the captain’s armband by James Collins this season.
On hosting PSV at Molineux
“I’m really looking forward to playing against PSV at Molineux. I think Molineux is a special place to play.
“If you play for Wolves, it’s a dream to play at Molineux, so I’m really looking forward to the game."
On playing PSV when he was younger
“When I was younger I used to play a lot of times against PSV, so it’s going to be a tough game but I’m really looking forward to it.
“It’s also really special for me to play against a Dutch team and I don’t want to lose against a Dutch team, of course. I will give everything to not lose the game.
“I lived about 20 minutes from PSV’s training ground so I used to play them a lot when I was young. They were always competitive games against PSV and I think Monday will also be competitive.”
On growing up in the Netherlands
“Everyone’s dream in Holland is to play for a Premier League club. When I heard that Wolves wanted me, I was so excited to play for Wolves.
“I’m still very happy and grateful that I’m here now.”
On the start to the season
“We had a tough start and lost the first three games but after I think we’ve done really well, won some games, got a couple of clean sheets, I scored two goals, so I’m really happy with the season so far.
“Hopefully I can maybe score one on Monday. It’s going really well I think.”
On being give the armband
“I was a little bit surprised at the first game when James gave me the captain’s armband.
“I’m really happy to wear the armband and it’s really special for me to wear it. I try and help the team and lead the team now. it’s really good.
“It’s different than before because now I’m responsible for a lot of things and you need to lead the team and stand up for the team.
“It’s something I really like and hopefully I can get more games with the captain’s armband.
“I need to be more of a leader now than I was before and I need to lead the team and help the team with everything. It’s really special for me to wear it.”
On the excitement of playing at Molineux
“It’s a dream to play here. If you look at this, it’s beautiful to play here and the pitch is so nice.
“I expect a lot of people will come and watch the game, so it’s going to be amazing to play here.”
