U21 preview | Wolves vs Fulham

Wolves under-21s open their 2023/24 Premier League 2 campaign at home to Fulham on Friday evening.

Please note, due to Premier League broadcasting restrictions, Friday evening’s Premier League 2 fixture with Fulham will not be live streamed.

James Collins’ side return to Aggborough following the completion of their pre-season schedule, which included a one-week camp in Slovakia where they played two competitive fixtures against Hungarian opposition.

In a new look format, this season’s PL2 will be slightly different with both divisions merging to form one 26-team league.

20 regular-season fixtures will be played throughout the campaign, with the top 16 qualifying for a single elimination play-off in May.

Fulham are under fresh leadership this season following the appointment of Hayden Mullins as their new under-21s head coach. The former midfielder previously spent four years as Watford’s under-21s head coach before taking up an assistant manager role at Colchester United.

Last season, Wolves and Fulham shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Aggborough, before the Cottagers won 2-1 in their home fixture.

WHAT THE BOSS SAID

“Fulham are always a really good barometer of under-21s football. They’re always right up there in the league and always produce good players.

“They’re athletic, technically very good and always well organised. They’ve got a new coach this year and I have no doubt that Hayden Mullins will have them the same.

“It will be a real test for us and it’s a really hard first game of the season. We’ll know after the game about the group we’ve got and where we’re at.”
