Griffiths commits future to Wolves

Harvey Griffiths has extended his contract at Wolves until at least the summer of 2026.

The 19-year-old midfielder is entering his third season with the Old Gold, having signed from Manchester City in August 2021.

In his first campaign, Griffiths was part of the under-21s squad who gained promotion back to the highest tier of youth football, as the club’s place in Premier League 2 division one was secured through the play-offs.

And Griffiths continued his development over the course of the 2022/23 season, becoming an integral member of James Collins’ group who successfully recorded a 12th place finish to remain in the league.

Only Nathan Fraser and Owen Farmer netted more PL2 goals in Wolves colours last season, with the midfielder scoring four times from the centre of the park.

Griffiths then went on to score twice in the post-season Next Generation Cup tournament, hosted by the Premier League in Mumbai.

His goal opened the scoring in the final, before a composed penalty kick in the shoot-out helped Wolves eventually take home the silverware.

Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, said: “Seeing a player with high potential is one thing but you still need to have the form to back it up. Over the last two years, Harvey’s form has been consistent and has progressively got better which means he’s developed nicely.

“Like any player coming into the programme we always look at what’s going to make them and what’s going to stop them. We always try to ensure the players continue to get opportunities to practice what they’re really good at doing – within the games programme and in the training environment.

“Equally, what they’re not and need to be better at, we expose them to and I think we’ve been able to get a good blend of that with Harvey.

“Players with high potential will always have an opportunity in pre-season with our first-team and Harvey’s got a great opportunity to go in, shine and show the manager what he’s capable of doing.”
