Fraser rewarded with extended contract

Nathan Fraser has penned a fresh contract with Wolves, which secures his future with the club until at least the summer of 2025.

The new deal is a reward for the striker who has tirelessly led the line for the under-21s throughout the 2022/23 season.

Fraser, 18, first signed for Wolves as a seven-year-old after he was spotted playing for local grassroots club Trysull Tigers and rose through the academy ranks at Compton Park.

He signed his first professional contract with the Old Gold in February 2022 and played a key role for the under-18s, scoring goals in both the league and also FA Youth Cup, which saw Wolves reach the semi-finals of the competition.

After getting his taste of under-21s action last season, Fraser permanently made the step up to James Collins’ side this term and scored seven goals as the youngsters secured their Premier League 2 status.

More recently, Fraser scored four goals in four games as Wolves under-19s lifted the Premier League’s Next Generation Cup in India, collecting silverware from the post-season tournament to ensure the campaign ended on a high.

Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, has praised Fraser’s consistent approach and attitude, suggesting that his form at the end of the season is a deserved reward for his efforts.

“I’m really pleased for Nathan to get his new contract. As a second year scholar, he’s been playing in the under-21s every week and turns up to every training session and game with the same attitude.

“He’s been consistent with his approach and towards the end of the season he’s managed to pick up a few goals and hit the back of the net.

“Nathan has deserved the reward of those goals and the staff around him have been excellent. They’ve been consistent with their messages, their approach and I think that’s provided a lot of stability for Nathan to feel that he can really go and express himself.”

Hunter-Barrett has also highlighted Fraser’s ability to play the number nine role in the team, despite still being a second-year scholar and having recently turned 18.

“Playing number nine in any team is quite a lot of pressure but he’s been able to do it in the under-21s, be the focal point and take it in his stride.

“We want him to continue with his progression, continue with where we think he’s going to get to and take any opportunities as they come.”
