Cundle | 'All the lads in there are together, on and off the pitch'

Luke Cundle feels the togetherness within the Wolves under-23 camp has been crucial to the positive results on the pitch as the side booked their place in the Premier League Cup final.

The midfielder has been in goalscoring form for the development side in recent weeks as he’s deployed in a more attacking role by James Collins, bagging another brace to secure a 3-2 win over Middlesbrough and set up a final with West Bromwich Albion.

On reaching the final

“It was a great team performance. We knew it was going to be a tough Middlesbrough side tonight with the team they had out from the start, but I think the lads showed a lot of character throughout the game and I thought we thoroughly deserved the win in the end.

“All the lads in there are together, on and off the pitch. We work really hard for each other and we just enjoy being around each other and I think that shows every time we play.

“We’ve been playing some good football, especially in the second-half tonight, and I think we’ve shown real togetherness throughout.”

On another goal inside a minute

“We seem to be doing that quite a lot lately. We know Lee and we know what he can do, he’s the player in form at the moment, so we’re all happy for him.”

On playing further up the pitch

“I’m playing in a different position and playing higher up the pitch so that’s been asked of me, to get more involved higher up the pitch in the final third to create and score goals, and I’m doing it at the minute. I like it. I’m not bothered about where I play really. I just want to play football because I enjoy it. I don’t mind where I play on the pitch, I will give it my best wherever I’m asked to play.

“I enjoy these types of games and dropping down to the under-23s is a good test and a good standard of football. I get asked to play and I’m willing to do it. I want to help the 23s and I want to play for myself to keep my fitness up and keep improving.

“I’ve just got to keep working hard and keep putting in performances like I did today and during the last couple of weeks, so that’s all I’ve got to keep doing.”

On the final month of the season

“There’s a drive for us to go better than we did last year. Last year was a hard one to take as we went all the way down to Palace [in the play-off semi-final] and not get through, but this year we’re going to try that little bit harder to see if we can go further.

“We’re very excited about the final, a derby, at Molineux or the Hawthorns, but we’ll see what that can bring.

“The fans give you that extra push, especially late on in the game, they’re roaring you on and telling you to run more, in a sense. It’s important for the fans to come and it’s important for the lads on the pitch as it really helps us.”
