Wolves under-23s made it two wins from two in the Premier League Cup after an entertaining victory at Exeter City’s St James Park. After falling behind, Wolves fought back through goals from Chem Campbell, Conor Carty and Kai Corbett to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions.
After victory over West Ham United at the start of the month, Wolves under-23s had a perfect start in the Premier League Cup to maintain, but that record was no forgone conclusion, as Exeter demonstrated in the opening eight minutes, with Sonny Cox volleying home Colin Daniels’ cross.
Wolves’ youngsters were only behind for 20 minutes however, responding in style through Campbell. Picking up a flick by Corbett, the attacker worked the ball onto his left foot, picked his spot and fired low into the near bottom corner.

Quickly after the interval, Wolves tuned it around. Corbett was again the creator, slipping a clever through ball between the two Grecian central defenders and feeding Carty, who was composed when firing across the goalkeeper and into the corner with his left foot.
The old gold were enjoying themselves down south and a marauding run by Lewis Richards, operating at left-wing-back, forced the third goal, as he picked out Corbett in the centre and the attacker steadied himself before firing home to give Wolves a two-goal cushion.
That luxury didn’t last long however, as Alfie Pond rose highest to head home a corner and drag his team right back into contention. However, Collins’ men showed their professionalism from that point, holding their opponents at back to make it two wins from two for the campaign.
