Wolves under-23s strengthened their grip on a PL2 Division 2 play-off position with one of their most accomplished performance of the season against Norwich City.
Luke Cundle, Owen Hesketh and Jack Scott put the Canaries to the sword at Aggborough, as Wolves’ 3-0 victory saw them leapfrog Burnley and Middlesbrough into third.
It was birthday boy Cundle, operating in a more advanced role than normal, who set the tone with the opening goal after 13 minutes, flicking his header home, and Wolves never looked back.
Norwich, through Jordan Thomas, struck a post in their search of an equaliser, but it was Wolves the more dominant side and Owen Otasowie, getting minutes into his legs, who squandered a hat-trick of chances to double the lead.
Instead, that honour fell to Hesketh, who found himself in the right place at the right time to convert Cundle’s cross, following a strong run by the returning Taylor Perry.
Then a brilliant towering header from Scott added further gloss to the scoreline, with Wolves cruising to victory and maintaining their clean sheet at the other end thanks to a smart Joe Young save late on.
COMING UP
James Collins’ side finish their regular campaign with a double header against Reading, with a trip to Berkshire up next on Friday, for a match which will be shown live on Wolves TV at 1pm.
