The development side are sat in third place in Premier League 2 Division 2, and were trailing Leeds by 14 points – with three games in hand over their rivals – ahead of Friday’s loss, but defeat at Aggborough against a Leeds side which included several senior stars, including two goals for cub record signing Rodrigo, has given the side an almost unassailable lead at the top of the table.
With the teams in second to fifth come the end of the season being rewarded with a place in the play-offs and just four points separating seven sides, it means Wolves’ eyes are on achieving a place in the post-season competition.
On defeat against the league leaders
“It was a difficult game. In the first-half, we conceded a sloppy first goal off the set-piece, but we knew that was coming and was the plan for them, but we didn’t react to it.
“In the second-half we pressed them a bit better. The rotation in their midfield caught us out a bit in the first-half and I thought we dealt better with that in the second-half.
“Even the last 20 minutes of the first-half really, because we created some really good chances but we just couldn’t get the goal.
“But we felt like we didn’t do enough to win the game anyway, I thought they were the better side and deserved the win.”
