The 17-year-old, who made his senior debut in 2019 when he appeared as a second-half substitute in the penalty shootout victory over Reading in the Carabao Cup, has also played several matches for both the under-18s and under-23s this season – scoring his first goal for the development side in Friday’s 2-2 draw with Leeds United.
But Cundle is taking all of the experiences in his stride and aiming to continue to improve as he looks for a regular starting spot for the under-23s.
On learning from the first-team
“You learn a lot from training with the first-team when you’re down there. Obviously, working with Nuno is good and he really helps you, so when I drop back down to the under-23s and play, it helps me in my game.
“It’s been good and I’ve had different experiences all the time, and when I play with the older lads it helps me for when I go down to the under-18s or the under-23s, so when I go to those games, I feel better in better shape to play.
“I enjoy the challenges I face and every day I come to the training ground I want to face a new challenge, but now I need to start playing regular football for the under-23s, keep scoring, making assists and playing well.”
On fighting back from two goals down
“We thought the in the first-half, we really dominated the game, but we didn’t take our chances. We felt we could do better second-half, press them better and I felt we deserved the two goals in the end.
“James said to us at half-time, to keep going, keep doing the right things, and chances will come and we’ll get our goals.”
On playing as a ‘number ten’
“I really enjoy playing there. It’s my favourite position playing the ten on my own. I managed to get my goal as well so that was good.
“Lately, we’ve not been doing too well, and we felt we could get better results, so it was nice to get the goal, but we got through the game in the end, so the goal was better for the team, than just one person.”
Wolves under-23s are at Molineux on Wednesday evening for a winner-takes-all European group stage match against Liverpool in the Premier League International Cup.
