Rob Edwards and his under-23s side enjoyed a break from their busy league and cup schedule to take on FC Jumilla and eight Wolves loanees in the process, which proved a useful exercise.
It was one of Wolves’ own who settled matters on the pitch in style as Boubacar Hanne’s brilliant effort from distance flew into the top corner, past Harry Beasley.
Wolves under-23s, who were missing nine players due to call-ups to the first-team or international duty, were able to give opportunities to under-18 players as well as Dominic Iorfa and Ethan Ebanks-Landell.
Although the hosts shaded the opportunities, and deservedly led through Hanne’s fine strike, Wolves could have equalised late on when Austin Samuels stung the palms of the home goalkeeper after a tricky run.
However, the friendly gave Edwards a chance to see the likes of Donovan Wilson and Ryan Leak in their current surroundings and he will have been pleased with what he saw of them.
MOMENT OF THE MATCH
Austin Samuels was given an opportunity to impress down the right and came close to earning his side a draw out in Spain. The forward’s mazy run fashioned an opening and his well-struck effort would have produced an equaliser had it been either side of the Jumilla goalkeeper.
