Jumilla vs Wolves | U23 match preview

Rob Edwards’ side have travelled to Jumilla to face nine of their team mates who are currently out on loan at the Spanish side.

Wolves have taken a mixed group with experience in the form of Ethan Ebanks-Landell and a number of under-18s, and take on Jumilla in a friendly on Tuesday morning. After three draws in different competitions recently, Edwards will be pleased for a bit of respite and the chance to see the likes of Ryan Leak and Donovan Wilson in their current habitat of Spain.

The fixture also gives Edwards an opportunity to test out his game plan with different players at his disposal, after Nuno Espirito Santo promoted a selection of his regulars to the first-team for the international week. Following the friendly, the players will train in warm weather conditions before returning to the UK later in the week.

On Jumilla fixture

We’re looking forward to seeing the lads in a different environment. I think they’ve settled down now, it was a little bit tough as first, like it’s going to be. There’s not many British players who go the other way, it’s more foreign players coming in, but the players seem to be thriving in it.

On sticking to the system

The Gaffer speaks about this too, we’re not going to change, this is what we do and believe in. The under-18s are working the same way as the under-23s, and the under-23s try to mirror the first-team, so it should be clear for any player coming in from different groups. They know their role and responsibility and I think it makes it easier. Hopefully we get a cohesive performance, we’re looking for an attitude and work ethic, which I know we’ll get. We want a good performance as always, but we’re looking for some good individual performances. We might not click how we have done because we’ve been able to work with a consistent group this season, but we’ll always get a good attitude.

On link with under-18s

There has to be a link so we know who we’re going to be working with in the future. We’ve had some high-level performances this season, so it’s tough for the under-18s to break into our squad, like it is for our lads to break into the first team and that’s how it should be, it should be competitive. We’re looking for them to try and impress tomorrow.
