Wolves were recently represented at Earth FC’s ECOFUT Summit, the largest ever gathering of football for planet in Brazil.
The conference, hosted at the iconic MorumBIS Stadium on the 30th and 31st May, was organised by Earth FC (Terra FC in Brazil) in partnership with Sao Paulo FC, the Paulista Football Federation and the Brazilian Ministry of Sports.
It brought together key stakeholders from Brazilian and world football, including clubs, federations and government officials. Alongside Wolves, other European clubs pioneering sustainability were represented, including FC Porto and Wolfsburg.
Thom Rawson, sustainability lead at Wolves, said “ECOFUT was a milestone summit, bringing together the football ecosystem from across Brazil and globally to focus on the sport’s interrelationship with climate, ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 30) convening in Brazil later this year.
"It was a pleasure to share insights from Wolves’ sustainability programme, One Pack, One Planet, to inspire wider climate action through football, while making new connections with clubs and organisations at various stages of their sustainability journeys.”
Following the summit, Earth FC released a report showing that 90% of clubs in the FIFA Club World Cup are at critical risk of climate-related impacts by 2050.
The new Football’s Toughest Opponent report highlights the severity of the threat climate change poses to the clubs participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and offers a snapshot of the wider risks facing football around the world.
This alarming scenario for the future of world football has been revealed in a new study by consultancy ERM (Environmental Resources Management), commissioned by Earth FC, a global coalition of football clubs, fans, community groups and civil society to unleash the power of football to tackle climate change.
Earth FC is calling on fans, clubs, players and the wider football community to sign for the club to show their support for more action to tackle climate change and the destruction of nature. Fans are invited to show their support by signing for Earth FC and following the campaign on social media @joinearthfc and @terrafutebolclube.
The campaign has already reached millions of fans across Brazil, with football players and legends signing for the club including Athirson, Denílson, Jorginho, Simoes, Washington and Zico, and support from clubs including Atletico Mineiro, Botafogo, FC Porto, Flamengo, Fluminense, Paysandu, Real Betis, Remo, São Paulo FC, Vasco da Gama, Volta Redonda, Wolfsburg FC, Wolves, Wydad Casablanca and many others.
