Joao Gomes admits his love for Wolverhampton as a city and its people has made this season even more disappointing to take.
The Brazilian has spent three-and-a-half years at the club, making 115 appearances, but this season has suffered relegation to the Championship after a difficult campaign at Molineux.
The 25-year-old, who harbours hopes of representing his nation at the World Cup this summer, will step out at Molineux for the final time this season on Sunday, and is determined to end a poor campaign on a rare bright note.
On his love of the city
“It’s very hard to keep going, but we have to fight and I will do my job. We need to be professional, we need to play for the fans and for the city. My son was born here, the city is amazing, the people are amazing, so it is very, very hard.”
On the defeat at Brighton
“We were very sad. We conceded two goals early, so it was difficult. We can’t look behind, we are only now focusing on the next game.”

On being relegated
“I feel very, very sad. Not only me, but my family, for the fans here. I love this city and the people here, for me it’s a very big disappointment.”
On the World Cup coming up
“It is every player’s dream. If you ask many players, they will say they want to play at a World Cup. I don’t know [if he’ll be picked], it’s a decision for the coach, but if he did call me, I would be 100 per cent ready.
“When you talk about Brazil, for me it’s always the best team in the word. It will be very difficult to win, and there are many good teams, but I will give everything for my country.”
