Krejci | 'I hope our reaction will be positive'

With Chelsea set to pay a visit to Molineux on Saturday afternoon, Ladislav Krejci is hoping Wolves can start picking up points again as soon as possible to provide the fans with a positive end to a difficult season.

After beginning 2026 on the front foot with five games unbeaten, the Old Gold have fallen to consecutive 2-0 defeats to Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth, although the Czech defender was absent from the most recent loss after suffering from the flu last week.

But now he’s back to full fitness and ready to stake a claim for a place in the starting 11 against Chelsea this weekend – alongside deadline day signings Adam Armstrong and Angel Gomes, and after a few days together on the training pitch at Compton Park, Krejci believes the new additions will provide a spark to the team for what he expects to be another tough Premier League fixture.

On defeat to Bournemouth last weekend

“Obviously, I was watching it on the television because I was sick last week, but what I saw on the television was that in the second half, we were much better.

“We had quite a lot of chances to score and take something from the game. But unluckily, we didn’t score any goals and in the last minute, we conceded a second goal.

“It’s a pain for us because we know the situation that we are in, and at home, we want to get as many wins as we can, and we didn’t get the goal that we wanted.”

On facing Chelsea this Saturday

“They’re a big challenge, but for us, every match now is a big challenge. We can see from them that they are changing the formation, changing the style, rotating a lot of players, so it’s very hard to read them.

“We are trying out what we think will be best for our shape, for our team, for the defence and for the attack, and what we can get from it. They have some top players, but there are top players in every team in the Premier League.

“We can go team by team and speak about every player from them, but this is what I like about this challenge and from this league. We’re competing with the best players in the world and you need to adapt to every game for something different, because every player has different qualities, and this is something that I have had to learn, but it’s what I like about football.”

On welcoming Armstrong and Gomes to the squad

“We’ve had two or three sessions on the pitch together, and from just a short time with those players, you can see the big quality those guys have.

“I believe this is why they came because they will help us a lot in the things that we need to do to improve. The first few days with them out on the pitch was positive, so I believe they will help us, and they will be happy also here.”

On showing signs of improvement

“I’m still not in a position that I can say what was wrong and what was good, because we are still in the middle of the season. I try to react only on the present, what is going on now, and then let’s discuss what has happened after the season.

“But now, I feel we’ve made some improvement. We saw it in the results during the New Year and we felt like what we were working on was also showing on the results. We’ve had two games and two defeats, but I hope our reaction will be positive and different, but that we still show the energy that we had for the five games when we got the points.

“This is how I feel now, and I believe that for the rest of the team it is the same, and we will get as much as we can from the rest of the season.”

On working under Edwards

“He's brought his energy and his ideas of football. We had very tough period with a lot of games in a short time, every three days, and also with this, we were improving as a team, as an individual, and knowing more of each other in the pitch.

“This was also why we get stabilised a bit as a team and as a system. From that, we started to get some results and some points. This is what I feel he’s brought and the impact he’s had on now.

“But now it is the present and the future, but if we can get from what we did in the past, what we learned, and we’re still learning the new things that he’s thought us and what he wants from us, and it’s on us to do it.”
