Hwang | 'We love this feeling and we deserved to win'

Hee Chan Hwang says Saturday’s win over West Ham United was reward for a collective effort from the players, staff and supporters.

The Old Gold ended their long wait for a Premier League success in comprehensive fashion, striking three times during a thrilling first half, with Hwang setting up the opener and scoring the second from the penalty spot.

The South Korean has impressed in recent matches, and appears to have earned the trust of Rob Edwards, as has Mateus Mane, and Hwang praised both the head coach and the teenager during a positive post-match interview at the weekend.

On the happiness the win brought

“I’m really, really happy to get three points, which is the most important moment in this season. I think we really created this moment, with players and fans – everyone. For this result, we worked very, very hard and we really did come in to win this game and we got it.

“We love this feeling, and we waited for this feeling for a very, very long time, but I think we deserved to win, and we can enjoy this day, but soon will come another game and we want to win every single game for the rest of season. I think we can do it. I’m so happy to win.”

On Mane stepping up

“He’s just unbelievable. He’s a top player, top talent, and he's just 18. We always say every day in the training, ‘You are just 18?’. We are just surprised. He can show more things in the game, also.

“I push him every single game when he’s next to me, I push him, ‘Mane, go, go, go. You can do it. You can do more’. He follows other players well and he listens. He can be the best player, maybe in the league, he's top talent and top person also.”

On getting the win for Edwards

“I love Rob, our coach. Tactically, his detail I can follow and I want to learn good football. But since day one, he taught us some good tactical things, and I understand this football. Then I wanted to be an important player, of course, every single day and every single game, also.

“He explains very, very well and very clear, and the detail is very, very good. That's why I think I can really understand what he wants, and we follow it very well, not just me, all the players, we understand what he wants. That's coming now, the arrived just six, seven weeks ago, and it's come more, then I think we will be better in the next games.”
