Mateus Mane says Saturday’s thrilling afternoon against West Ham United has made him hungry to keep a whirlwind start to his Wolves career going.
The 18-year-old was making his first Molineux start after a pair of lively outings on the road and was involved in all three goals as Wolves won in the Premier league for the first time this season.
Having turned smartly in the buildup to the first goal, Mane then won the penalty for the second. The youngster capped off a memorable first half by firing home his first goal for the club, and is loving every minute of the journey he’s now on.
On day to remember
“I can’t believe it. It’s what we work for – a first goal, a first three points. Now we’ve got to build on it and keep going. We took the away games into today.
“We got the three points, and I felt like we deserved them after the Liverpool and United games. Now we’ve actually got them, we need to build on them and keep going.
“It was amazing. I was buzzing for the team, having all the fans singing. The stadium turned and got our backs up. From the first goal, after my half turn, I felt I could do more. Then I won the penalty and got my goal.”

On his first Wolves goal
“I saw Arias on the edge and thought about playing him, but I had the shot and it went in, so I’m happy that I could show it.
“In training I’ve been practising being on the half turn, and shooting between players’ legs, so the goalkeeper is off, and they can’t see it.”
On a whirlwind period of time
“I sometimes look back and think how everything’s happened so quick. I feel like I deserved to be here, but I’ve got to take in every minute. I’m so hungry. We work hard in training, we recover week and go again on Wednesday."

On the reception he got
“It was amazing, the fans singing my name and getting behind us, even when we weren’t performing, and that just proves what an amazing club this is. We want to perform for them and get more points for them.”
