Wolves squad pay respects to Diogo

On Boxing Day night the Wolves squad attended tributes to the late Diogo Jota outside Anfield, ahead of the first meeting between his two former English clubs today.

The Portuguese tragically lost his life, alongside brother Andre Silva, in the summer, leading to an outpouring of emotion from Liverpool, Wolves and the footballing world.

While fitting tributes were paid at the first games of the season, both at Anfield and Molineux, Saturday’s meeting on Merseyside is the first time Wolves and Liverpool have met since his passing.

On Friday evening interim executive chairman Nathan Shi, head coach Rob Edwards and Jota’s Portuguese teammate Jose Sa laid wreaths outside Anfield in memory of the popular former Old Gold man.

A moment of reflection followed for the whole group, including for Rui Pedro Silva and Matt Doherty, who worked closely with Jota during a special era at Molineux.

A magical footballer who will always be remembered.
