Munetsi | 'We want to see the club in a better place'

Marshall Munetsi insists the Wolves players want to see the club in a much better place, after Sunday’s setback against Burnley.

The late Molineux defeat left the Old Gold at the foot of the Premier League table and led to supporters sharing their frustrations with the players, which Munetsi understands.

The Zimbabwean had brought his side back level with a close-range header before the break, but was frustrated to see his side out of luck in the second period, compounded by an injury time winner for the Clarets.

On morale being low

“If you see the phase that we are going through, the first half we conceded two goals and managed to come back, and the guys really pushed hard second half to try to get the winner at home.

“It's quite a difficult moment for everybody, we always want to win games for us players, and also for the supporters and everybody associated with the club. The players really feel the difficulties, but we still have much more to play for, and I think we just have to stay together, stay united.”

On Burnley’s late winner

“Things are not really working well. We created so many chances, we kept on pushing, putting them on the back foot. We really did our best and they had luck, especially in the last minutes of the game.

“It really was painful, but we just have to keep pushing, keep moving as a team, and try to change the situation that we face. It's only us, the players and the team, and obviously we ask supporters to stick with us, because it's a phase that hopefully will pass very soon.”

On dealing with fan frustrations

“We understand them because they love the club. A lot of them grew up supporting this team, and they just need to know that we also want to see the club in a better place. We, as players, don't want to be in this situation. So, we do understand the anger and the frustration, but we’re going to do our best to make sure that we win games, and we just want them to support us, because in the end we ourselves and them have to get us out of this situation.

“If we are divided, it won't work for us. Stick together, keep pushing. Last year we managed to change things because of them supporting us and winning a lot of games at home. So, it’s key for us to stick together and try to get out of the situation.”

On Pereira as head coach

“He did an amazing job. Last year when he came things were also quite tough and he managed to turn things around. We know how he wants to work, and we have been working quite well. Some of us came because of him. So, I think we are just going through a phase that none of us can really explain what's going on, and as a manager he's really trying to push to change, to train us in different ways, to find solutions to win games.

“I understand when fans get frustrated, he understands also. It's just a phase that we cannot explain, but we just have to keep on working together, supporting the managers, supporting the players, and also for the supporters to keep on being behind us, because we still have 29 games to go, so a lot can still do happen in 29 games.”
