Rodrigo Gomes has full belief that Wolves will be able to turn their recent Premier League draws into wins soon enough with the team in a good place ahead of Saturday’s visit to Sunderland.
The Portuguese has been one of just seven senior players who have remained at Compton Park this week during the international break as the squad has been supplemented by members of the under-21s.
And although Gomes admits preparations for this weekend have been impacted by the lack of first-team bodies at the training ground, he is confident the players will return in high spirits and the team will be able to build on the positive foundations they laid in their recent performances.
On being part of a small group at Compton this week
“It’s been a different week, but I think it's different for me as it’s the first time that I’ve been working like this because last year I was on the national team for the 21s, but now I’m too old, and now I’ve got to try to go to the first team of Portugal.
“So it’s been different, it’s not the best way to prepare for the match, but I think we are doing a good job and everyone is giving 100 per cent, and that’s the main goal, so we’re improving.”

On having the under-21s train with the first-team
“We’ve been working on different things, but we still have the numbers because we’ve been practising with the under-21s. It’s good for us, but it’s good for them too because they can practice with us.
“I remember when I was their age, I enjoyed this moment of training with the first-team, so it’s a good moment for them too, to work with us and to show their value to us and to the coach.
“But for us, of course it's different, but because we’ve had fewer players than normal, we’ve been able to work on different things and focus more on other things, that we wouldn’t usually have chance to do, so although it’s not the best way to prepare, we’ve tried to do everything possible to improve.”
On players coming back fit from international duty
“For me, it’s very important for them to come back and prepare for the game, because it’s a very important game for us to win. A few plays come back Wednesday and Thursday too, but we are going to do everything to prepare the game as well as possible.
“If we have only six or 10 players, we are going to give everything. It’s better if you have the whole squad, but it’s ok.”

On aiming for a first Premier League win
“It’s not been the start that you wanted, but I’ve scored two goals and I’m happy for that, but I want to do more, I want to score more, I want to play more, I want to assist more, and I’m working on that. I'm giving 100 per cent every day to show that.
“It’s all about giving everything every day, in the practice, in the match. If I play 90 minutes or if I play nine minutes, I want to give everything. That’s my thing. I always give everything, so I need to keep doing that, but I also need to improve my game.”
On pushing for a place in the team
“We have a very good group of players. Everyone needs to fight for their place, and we did a few changes in the games, but this is normal too, because we are trying to find a way to play and a way to win games.
“In the last few games, we have started to play better. We have two draws, and although it’s not a win, a point is better than losing. But we have to focus on that and keep our levels until the last minute.
“But I think we are in a good way. We are working very well, and we are improving our game. That's the main goal we need to do. If we can keep working hard and keep improving as we have been, then we are going to win a lot of games.”
