Jorgen Strand Larsen said the Wolves players are well aware of the mammoth task ahead of them as the side fell to a fifth consecutive defeat to begin their Premier League campaign.
The Norwegian admitted there is not a positive feeling inside the dressing room after Saturday afternoon’s loss at home to Leeds United, but he insists he still has plenty of belief that his teammates can help turn their season around.
On the mood in the dressing room
“It’s bad. As simple as that. I think we’re in a really, really though spot right now and I’m really disappointed in all of us. No-one wants to be in this situation, but we have no one else to blame or nothing else to complain about – only ourselves.
“We were 1-0 up today and everything’s perfect, so we can’t give away those goals we gave away, especially not three in the first half. It kills us and it kills the people who want to come into the game too.
“We made the change and I think we did better in the second half, but obviously it’s not all about the players who played, it’s about the mentality of all of us and we need to be doing a lot better than we are doing right now and hopefully we can do it because in this league it’s tough to be playing like this.”
On the three goals conceded
“It was obviously a good goal and it’s difficult for me to see it and it’s easier to see it when you’re on the pitch yourself. I’ve been out now for the last few games, but it does give a little bit of a vibe of the other goals we’ve conceded.
“It was two easy crosses that we’ve not stopped and given away passes. The goal we scored showed the quality that we have in the team, absolutely, I think we have so many quality players, but we can’t only be good on the ball, and although it was a good goal, sometimes we need to be able to win 1-0 at home and not concede.
“We need to work on that, and it’s not only about the goalkeepers or the defenders, that’s on all of us. We need to really make sure our mentality is changing, otherwise it’s going to be a long season.”
On keeping his belief
“Of course it can’t continue like this, but I believe in us. I believe in the players, I believe in the manager and I believe in the club.
“What we have is something realty special and something really good – we showed that last season with our six-game winning spell, so we have the quality, and we just need to find those small details that just put us in the right way instead of conceding and losing games.
“Right now, we are missing a little bit of flair, and missing a little bit of fire in us, but that will come and it has to come quick.”
On signing a new deal
“We had a really nice season all together last year and me ad my family are really happy to be here for five more years, and I’m here to do hopefully what I did last season, to bring goals, to bring a good attitude and hopefully we can turn this bad start around because I’m not happy when we’re losing.”
