Wolves 1 (Krejci 8) Leeds United 3 (Calvert-Lewin 31, Stach 39, Okafor 45)
Wolves’ search for their first Premier League point of the season continues after Vitor Pereira's side fell to defeat against Leeds United at Molineux.
Although Ladislav Krejci gave Wolves the perfect start, marking his first Premier League appearance at Molineux with a goal just eight minutes in, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header and Anton Stach’s free-kick turned the contest on its head.
Noah Okafor added a third for the visitors on the stroke of half-time, and following a goalless second-half, Wolves were left to suffer their fifth defeat of the league campaign in the first five matches.
The opening exchanges were blurred by driving rain, though it was the away side who first threatened. Gabriel Gudmundsson played a neat give-and-go with Anton Stach to reach the byline, but his cut-back across goal failed to find a teammate.
After Leeds’ early flurry into the attacking third, Wolves broke the deadlock up the other end with a superb team goal. Tolu Arokodare set Fer Lopez to neatly clip a pass into Krejci’s path - arriving in the penalty box - before the Czech international lifted his effort over Karl Darlow and into the roof of the net.
Leeds responded assuredly to falling behind, dominating possession for a spell after the opener. Wolves, however, restricted their opponents to just Sean Longstaff and Brenden Aaronson’s long-range efforts for now - both of which cleared the upright.
As Leeds’ presence inside Wolves’ final third grew, the visitors found a leveller. Jayden Bogle’s delivery received a fortunate deflection, allowing Calvert-Lewin to guide his header up and over Jose Sa for his first Leeds goal.
Just eight minutes later, Leeds turned the game on its head. Stach stood over a free-kick from 20 yards out before bending an inch-perfect effort past an outstretched Sa and into the top-left corner.
Pereira’s side were pushed back again on the stroke of half-time. Stach, involved again, this time won possession high up the pitch before slipping Noah Okafor through on goal, who calmly slid his effort low past Sa.
Half-time | Wolves 1-3 Leeds
Pereira rang the changes at the break, introducing Hugo Bueno, Marshall Munetsi and Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Wolves began the second half on the front foot and carved out an opening when Emmanuel Agbadou whipped a delivery towards Tolu. The striker cushioned a header down for Munetsi to touch and shoot, but his volley was smartly saved by Darlow.
The hosts continued to push for their second of the game and were not short on opportunities. First, Hugo Bueno delivered an inswinging cross that found Yerson Mosquera, though his header failed to trouble the Leeds shot-stopper.
Moments later, Jackson Tchatchoua latched onto Agbadou’s searching diagonal ball, with Joao Gomes eventually steering an effort goalwards. A deflection took the sting out of the strike, however, and Darlow was comfortable in denying the Brazilian's effort.
The bulk of the final 20 minutes was played in Leeds’ half, but Wolves’ pressure ultimately amounted to nothing, with chances from Tolu and Munetsi going askew.
When stoppage time expired, Wolves were left to rue their missed chances and sank to a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat, rooted to the foot of the table.
