Jean-Ricner Bellegarde collected the SUDU Player of the Month award for August, following a vote takeover by supporters from his national team, Haiti.
The midfielder recently declared himself available for Haiti and debuted against Honduras earlier this month, and his impact was so great on international duty that more than 20,000 Haitians voted for him in the monthly Wolves award.
The 27-year-old has featured in all five of the Old Gold’s fixtures this season and added two Haiti caps to his name, and this week received his award at Molineux.
“I am very happy for this,” he said. “Everywhere I go with the team, Haitian guys are everywhere. I was very happy with the reception, and I need to give my best for the team.
“When you see the support like this, you want to give your best and help every game. I need to fight for Wolves this week, and I hope we win, and I hope for clarification for Haiti as well.”
Bellegarde, who represented France at youth level, featured in Haiti’s opening two World Cup qualifiers. He started in both the goalless draw with Honduras and 3-3 thriller with Costa Rica, and couldn’t hide his pride at making his debut.
“I'm so happy to represent my country and my family are very proud of this, before I played for France, but now I'm playing for Haiti, and my family are very happy about this. It was a good experience.
“I feel like I'm representing my family. It is a small country, but now we have the chance to play at the World Cup, so my family tell me it’s a good moment for play for Haiti, and I think it’s a big opportunity for me.”
