Captain Toti believes the transfer window closing will bring stability to the Wolves group and he’s confident Vitor Pereira’s side will show they’re better than their August results suggest.
The Old Gold are winless after three Premier League matches, but have welcomed fresh faces into the group, with both Ladislav Krejci and Tolu Arokodare in line for debuts this weekend, and the fresh blood can only benefit the atmosphere, according to Toti.
The Portuguese, who took the armband on the eve of the new season, was in a positive frame of mind when thinking ahead to Newcastle United on Saturday, knowing the group has worked on mistakes during the international period and is in a better shape coming out the other end of it.
On the work since Everton
“Of course, we’re not having the beginning to a season that we wanted and that we've been training and preparing for in pre-season, so it’s been tough. I’m not going to say it’s easy to start the season with three losses and zero points, but it's still early and there’s still a lot of time to improve. We know that we are capable of being in a much better position than we are right now, and we have the team and the coach, so we can do it.
“Maybe the international period was something that we needed. We needed a little break, to stop and correct a few things that we were not doing well. I think maybe this break’s going to help us, and it's going to hopefully bring better things, because now the window is closed.
“It's not the end of the world. Things don't look that beautiful for us, but we cannot think negatively, keep positive and keep working hard, we still have a lot of time to improve, and we’re going to do it. We have the players for that, and we have to keep positive.”
On the window closing
“Now, we have all the players that the Gaffer wanted to work with, and this break’s hopefully going to bring good things for us to improve from the last game. Now we're together until the next market at least. We need to be focused on togetherness and belief, and keep working hard and being humble, respecting the other teams, but knowing that we are capable of doing what the other teams are doing too.
“Of course, we had some little mistakes in each of the games that we lost. We know that those little mistakes caused the defeats that we had. But these are things that we can correct, and we can still improve, and that's what we're going to do.”
On welcoming new players into the group
“It was not easy, because players were coming in in different weeks, so sometimes we didn't have that stability, but now all the players are together. For the Gaffer, I think it’s better because we’re going to have everybody here, there's no more transfer window, so we know this is the squad that we have. This is the team that we have.
“I spoke to Tolu a bit. When he signed, I sent him a message on WhatsApp saying welcome to the pack, to the team, to the family and whatever he needed, I'm here to help him. We spoke a little bit, and he was really happy to join us. For sure, he is going to be one more to help us.”

On looking ahead to Newcastle
“It’s a tough fixture but every game is. Newcastle’s stadium isn’t easy to win at, but we know we are capable and we have a strong team. We need to respect them as a team but know that we can go there and beat them. We’re going to prepare well this week, there's some players that are still away with their national team, but they're going to arrive in time to keep working to try and go there and bring the three points home.
“Some of the players are going to arrive later than the others, because they're a bit far away, but everybody's going to be back, and for sure by the time of the game, everybody's going to be ready to give everything.”
