Pre-season training | Week five round-up

10th August 2025

A busy final week of pre-season saw Wolves face their last two friendly fixtures in two countries as preparations for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Manchester City ramped up.

The week including a third new signing, two friendlies against La Liga opposition, a flight home from Spain, Premier League meetings and a media access day at Compton.

With less than a week to go now until their Premier League campaign gets underway, wolves.co.uk has rounded up everything that has been happening during the final week of pre-season.

Saturday 2nd August

The final week of pre-season began with a new face through the door as Wolves announced the signing of Norwegian international defender David Moller Wolfe.

Wolfe arrived into the Black Country on Friday afternoon where he carried out his medical and media duties before his signing was announced the following morning.

While over in Spain, Vitor Pereira welcomed legendary Old Gold players Steve Bull and Andy Thompson as well as the Wolves supporters who had travelled over to Spain on a golf package, before taking to the course later in the day.

The squad were also put through their paces in preparations for the penultimate pre-season friendly against Girona on Sunday evening. Joao Gomes even became a cameraman for the day as he got hold of some of the Wolves TV kit to give a behind the scenes look at training in the gym.

Sunday 3rd August

Matchday in Spain. Wolves’ clash with Girona gave the Old Gold supporters a chance to see new signing Jhon Arias for the first time this summer.

The Colombian didn’t take long to show what he’s going to bring to the team this season, as Wolves’ new number 10 took just 14 minutes to open his account in gold and black after coming on with just under half an hour remaining.

However, Arias’ strike was not enough to secure a first win of pre-season for Pereira’s side, who conceded twice just after the half-time break.

As soon as the match finished, the players and staff packed up their belongings and got on a flight back from Girona to the West Midlands, before being given a day off on the Monday to rest and recover ahead of another busy week at Compton.

Tuesday 5th August

With the final week of pre-season back to the intensity of a usual training week, the players are only undertaking single training sessions each day, rather than the doubles which greeted them earlier in the summer.

The squad were back into Compton on Tuesday morning, where they got the chance to meet Wolfe for the first time. The Norwegian was unable to travel out to play with the side in Spain after not receiving his visa until Monday, meaning he was eligible to start training with the group upon their return.

There was one notable absentee from the group on Tuesday, following the departure of Goncalo Guedes the previous evening.

The Portuguese forward joined La Liga side Real Sociedad on Monday night after saying his goodbyes to the squad at their Girona camp and departed Wolves after a three-year association in gold and black where he scored seven goals in 51 appearances.

Wednesday 6th August

Another morning meant another training session for Pereira’s group who continue to ramp up their sessions with each passing day in preparation for the start of the new season.

Training wasn’t the only thing on the agenda for Wednesday, however, with the players also having to undertake a meeting with Premier League officials.

Referee Craig Pawson was the man who was tasked with visiting Compton and explaining all the new rules and regulations the players will have to adhere to this season, including the introduction of semi-automated VAR – as well as taking questions from the group.

The players were also told about new broadcasting regulations for 2025/26 which include substituted players having to undertake interviews while the game is ongoing and camera access inside the dressing room.

Thursday 7th August

One of the biggest days in the pre-season calendar for Wolves’ content team came on Thursday with the annual Premier League media access day taking place at Compton.

The day sees the league’s broadcast partners – including Premier League Productions, Sky Sports and TNT Spot – descend into the Black Country to capture all of the footage they need of the players for their graphics and adverts for the following 12 months.

Every member of Periera’s squad take part in media access day, which this season saw a dozen stations set up around the Academy dome at the training ground where they would be photographed or filmed in both the home and away kits.

The footage and images captured on the day will be used by all broadcasters across the world, as well as on Wolves’ own social media channels, on wolves.co.uk and in the official matchday programme.

Friday 8th August

The Wolves players faced their final training session of the week on Friday morning, where the last pieces of preparation were carried out ahead of Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo at Molineux.

But ahead of training, two members of the squad were given a special ceremony with Tom King and Mateus Mane picking up their Premier League match balls following their top flight debuts at the end of last season.

Forward Mane came off the bench for his senior debut at home to Brighton & Hove Albion in May, before goalkeeper King’s Premier League bow followed in the final moments of the last match of the season versus Brentford.

As well as being given their match balls before training kicked off, King and Mane had to run the traditional tunnel between the players where they were given their friendly taps!

Saturday 9th August

Pre-season came to a close at Molineux on Saturday as Wolves took on Spanish outfit Celta Vigo in the final friendly fixture of summer 2025.

Ahead of kick-off, Molineux paid tribute to legendary former Wolves forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically passed away last month.

Periera handed a start to new signings David Moller Wolfe and Jhon Arias, who both experienced their first outing at Molineux, as did Fer Lopez, who was playing against the club he only left last month.

Wolves pushed to try and claim a first win of pre-season, but it wasn’t to be for the Old Gold as Pablo Duran’s second half volley secured the victory for the visitors – mirroring the result from the last time the teams went head-to-head in summer 2021.
