Lopez | 'I’m feeling very excited to start the season'

Despite defeat in Wolves’ final game of pre-season against his former side Celta Vigo, Fer Lopez was in positive spirits after getting the chance to step foot on the Molineux turf for the first time.

The forward spent the first 12 years of his career in sky blue having joined his boyhood club as a nine-year-old, but having moved to Wolves just last month, he admits it felt strange to go up against his former teammates.

And although it was his old team who came out on top at Molineux, Lopez feels Wolves are in a good position to have a successful season – with just a week remaining before the Premier League kicks off.

On a first game at Molineux

“I’m feeling very, very excited to start the season. Playing in this wonderful stadium, I’m very grateful to the fans that came here because it’s pre-season, it’s a friendly and the stadium was nearly full.

“I’m very grateful for them for giving me a very warm welcome, and I’m very happy to play my first game here. Let’s hope there’s a lot more.”

On playing in front of his new home support

“It was amazing. We really feel the support in all the actions, all the tackles, all the dribbles, everything.

“I think they’re going to help us a lot during the season.”

On reuniting with his former Celta teammates

“It was amazing to see them again. I already went to the hotel yesterday to speak with them and now I’m going to the dressing room to hand our shirts and everything, and it was amazing to see them.

“Let’s hope we can play together in Europe next season.”

On facing his boyhood club

“It was strange because obviously Celta was my club and the club I’ve played for my whole life, so it was really strange. But I think I’m a professional and I enjoyed the game a lot.

“But I also knew a lot my old teammates and I knew that they played very good too so I’m very happy to play against my first club and play my first game here [at Molineux], but now my only focus is Man City.”

On preparing for the Premier League opener

“I think we are well prepared. I think the coach has really worked on what he wants us to do.

“I am very grateful for him and for the opportunity he’s given me and I think that we will do a very good job this season.”
