Yerson Mosquera admitted he’s taking his time to return to the pitch following the serious knee injury he sustained last season but was pleased to get some minutes under his belt for Wolves out in Girona on Sunday.
The Colombian defender – who has been joined by compatriot Jhon Arias in Old Gold this summer – has been out of action since last September but has spent the last 10 months recoverin at Compton Park so he could be ready to contribute to Wolves’ 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
With the season just over a week away, Mosquera insists he is not pushing himself too hard to be back in time for the visit of Manchester City to Molineux next weekend and will be patient as he takes his time to ensure he’s fully recovered.
On welcoming Arias to Wolves
“It’s amazing. I’m very excited to have one big player like him with us, and it’s really good to enjoy him, because he’s really good.
“He will help us a lot and we need to protect him, we need to put him in the group and after you will see the result.”

On returning from a season-long injury
“I’m happy to be back. It’s really exciting to play again and prepare for this moment.
“When you have a long time outside it's difficult because we love to play football. It was really important for me when I took to the pitch for my first minutes, for my first time back, I felt like a certainty.”
On taking it steady in pre-season
“I’m ok, but I still need to train more for my knee to be confident and I need to get fitter for the season.
“But during pre-season it is an amazing opportunity to get improved, and after I will be like I was. I will work hard to be better for the season.”
On giving his knee time to recover
“My knee feels ok. I didn’t rush a lot to be back quicker because I need to be careful. This was my first time with minutes in the game and I need to stay at my most comfortable, to make sure I’m ready for the next time and I will be more prepared for that.
“I still need to wait and need to be patient because I don’t want to rush anything with my knee. That is my first step, and I need to keep working so I can be ready for the next one.”
On mentally getting through an injury
“It's really important to think about how you feel mentally. That's the most important thing really because you know you will recover your knee physically if you are good. For me, it's really good, because everyone has helped me.
“When I go out to training or when we're inside, everyone is bringing to me the confidence to play again. Everyone believes in me, they know how I work, how I do everything in the training.
“But the mentality is the most important thing because if you are strong in the mind, everything is ok.”
