Algarve Access | Recovery and downtime in Portugal

Following Tuesday morning’s training ground match against Santa Clara, Vitor Pereira gave his group the rest of the day off to unwind away from their base in the Algarve.

The players spent time on the beach or went for food, before returning to camp. Wednesday’s session, as is customary after a match, was then focused on recovery.

A head tennis competition provided respite for the group, while Andre celebrated his birthday and was given the usual treatment before the session.

Come Thursday morning, the intensity returned to training, before another session in both the hotel gym and pool for the group.

Word from the camp

Speaking after Wednesday’s recovery session, attacker Goncalo Guedes was in a positive frame of mind, both personally and from a team perspective at this stage of pre-season.

Being back in Portugal

“I feel very well. Pre-season in my country, with this sun, I think it is very good. I'm feeling very good, it's my home, it's my country, I am all the time happy in Portugal. With this sun, it's very hot, it's difficult. The training is hard, but the intensity is good. It's very important for this part of the season.”

Team spirit at Wolves

“I think it's a good idea when you change to another country for training. The training is hard because the pre-season is hard. It’s important to be in one place, all the team together, I think it’s good for the team, because all the team sleeps in the hotel all the time, joking at the table, I think it’s very important for the team.

“I think the team spirit is unbelievable. The team is young. We all joke, but when we do the work, all the time we’re focused, and this is the most important.

“It is a little difficult to sing in front of everybody [initiation songs], but it's only for the introduction to the group, and put all the new people in the best condition, in the best way.”
