Background
It was only towards the end of his teenage years that Lopez started to grow into his frame, and now standing at 6'2 he's taken to senior football really well having had to face some challenges to get there. Having never been involved in the international youth age groups, he broke through and established himself in the B team at Celta Vigo before emerging as an important first-team player during the second half of the season.
Wolves had been tracking this journey through the B team with their regional coordinator in Spain before senior representatives attended his La Liga debut live in December, although that unfortunately ended prematurely after 43 minutes due to a small injury. He came back stronger in 2025, forcing his way into the team and starting games away to both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid whilst scoring in important wins against Mallorca and Villarreal.
Previously, at the age of 14, Lopez spent a school term in Stowmarket in Suffolk, where he experienced the UK’s culture and football in this country, as well as learning the language, which will be beneficial now at Wolves.
Playing Style
Stylistically, Lopez is a natural fit into Vitor Pereira’s preferred system – a natural 10 with lovely technique to receive between the lines and combine in ways which help create for others in the final third. He is also positive when space opens up in front, capable of driving with good power and getting shots away around the edge of the box.
He has the balance to play centrally or on both sides of the pitch, alongside a work-rate out of possession to match the demands that will be placed on him from the management team at Wolves.
Attitude
Having now matured into his physical shape, he possesses that blend of technical, tactical and physical qualities that Pereira values, having already shown his ability to handle pressure on the biggest stage at a young age. The Premier League is intense and requires an adaptation period for any player that arrives from a different environment, however the club hopes Fer's personality and talent will help him fulfil his potential and be an important player for many years to come.
