Pereira | 'This is the last image we can show'

Vitor Pereira says he wants his players to show themselves in the best possible way during the final two games of the Premier League season.

While proud of how the group have turned around their season, leading to a Manager of the Season nomination recently, Pereira wants one final push against Crystal Palace on Tuesday and Brentford on Sunday.

The Old Gold head to the capital for their final away game of the season and face a Crystal Palace side fresh from winning the FA Cup, which the head coach believes should give his players motivation for the future.

On finishing the season strongly

“It's not easy to keep the motivation. When you feel that you are not competing for Europe, you are not competing for the relegation. This is about us, about our mentality, about the last image that we can show, and I hope that tomorrow we play good football, we can enjoy the game and in the end be proud of our work.

“Place were there [the FA Cup final] because they deserved it, because they are consistent. This is the kind of team that we need to be next season, that I want, but our title this season was to transform our situation into a better situation. But it cannot be the same. In my opinion, we must next season be consistent from the beginning to dream with other things.”

On continuing to grow

“I'm painting. I’m in the process. I hope next season to create something stronger, more consistent, and to improve the level. I don't believe that you can finish the work in a team, because it’s something alive that you can improve every time.

“When we arrived, we were in a difficult situation, and now, before the end of the season, we can breathe because the work that we did together as a team created the conditions to not to be struggling until the last game. We are in a good condition. We want to get the best results until the end, but we are proud with the work.”

On facing the FA Cup winners

“I want to congratulate them, because it’s a huge achievement, and this is good for football. They are very consistent team – very good players, very good manager. We will face a strong team, but looking at our team, looking at our game. This is the way that we prepare for a game, looking at our game, trying to improve from the last game.

“I believe that the motivation of the supporters, motivation of the team, for sure, will be at the right level. To prepare for a game, I just look at my team, what we can improve, what we can do, try to be consistent. Next season be more consistent, play better football, and this is a way to improve our level.”

On improving on Brighton

“I felt we were missing something, fire in the eyes, more aggression to win the duels. Tactically, I think we lost a bit of the pace of the game. We started to play a transition game, and we are not this kind of team, to go fast and lose balls and to come back fast and go again. The game was unpredictable, and they scored the second goal.”

On looking ahead to a break

“I need a break. I started in Saudi Arabia. It's not easy, it was very tough work and here very tough work. Now it's time to rest, because we need to do a lot of work in the summer. I need to be on phone, need to have meetings. I need to help the club to do the best transfer market that we can, and to create expectations. But we just can create expectations when we have the tools. We need these tools to increase our level.”
