Bueno | 'We have to do it again on Wednesday'

Although delighted to have helped Wolves to their first win of the Premier League season, Hugo Bueno admits it means nothing if they don’t follow that up against Everton on Wednesday night.

The left wing-back produced a top display and claimed his first assist of the campaign in the 3-0 win over West Ham United at the weekend, as he set up fellow Wolves Academy graduate Mateus Mane for the inaugural goal of his senior career.

After doubling their points tally for the term on Saturday, Bueno is determined to make it another three in midweek as the Old Gold make their first trip to the Toffee’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

On a first three points of the season

“It was amazing, to be honest. For the whole group, for the players, the staff, for the fans, for everyone at the club, it felt so good. I think we deserved it, but it’s just the beginning.

“Getting the win was so important. You work every day in the week for those moments and when the result doesn’t come, it’s been a bit frustrating, like this season has been.

“But we finally got a good result, and we just have to keep the momentum and keep the confidence up because we know we can do it again and again.”

On finally getting the result they deserved

“We’ve had some positive performances recently, Liverpool and Manchester United, so we came into the game with a bit more confidence and there was a good feeling around everyone, but we have a really good group anyway

“A lot of people were saying that we’ve given up or whatever, but that’s never been the case.

“You can see in the training sessions every day, we keep going, we keep pushing each other, and we saw it on Saturday. I’m really happy for everyone and hopefully we can win on Wednesday as well.”

On the hard work paying off

“We’ve missed that feeling, and there were a lot of guys that have really deserved their goals. Jhon Arias has deserved his goal, so I’m really happy for him, because he’s worked so hard since he came in, and Channy as well.

“They both fully deserve it, so it was a brilliant afternoon for everyone. I’ve also worked a lot this season to get an assist, putting a lot of crosses, and it can also be a bit frustrating.

“But I’m happy also for myself because in the end, all the work pays off, and it paid off, but we have to do it again on Wednesday.”

On making the perfect start to 2026

“It was brilliant – a win, a clean sheet and an assist is almost the perfect weekend for a defender, but the perfect game for me, because I’m a little bit more ambitious, would have been a goal as well, but step by step and hopefully I can get the next one.

“We are so excited to go again at Everton. It’s a new stadium and it’s going to be a really good one, so I can’t wait for it.”
