Tommy Doyle says his aim is to start in this Wolves team regularly, so he was pleased to be involved over the Christmas period and is now hungry for more opportunities.
The midfielder came off the bench in wins over Chelsea and Brentford, before playing the full 90 of Saturday’s impressive victory over Everton. Now, he’s eyeing more opportunities as attention turns to the FA Cup and another trip to Brentford, where Doyle is focused on building on the good momentum created over the festive period by the Old Gold.
On attention turning to the FA Cup
“It was a tough week, so the lads can rest and now we’ve got an FA Cup game coming up, so we’ll play that and improve during this period. We have to step up, when people can’t play or lads aren’t here [due to international duty], we step up and I’m sure we’ll do that again.
“We can get better, we can improve. We’ll keep doing the right things, keep working hard, and with the gaffer and his staff we can go really far, so hopefully that will happen.”

On taking his opportunity from the start
“Whenever I’m called upon, I’m ready. That’s my goal, to be starting in this team, so whenever I get the chance, I’ve just got to put in as many good performances as I can and see what happens.
“I felt part of the group anyway, but when you’re on the pitch it means even more. I’m just happy to be out there, to be contributing, to be playing with the lads and enjoying it.”
On the Everton performance
“It was really good, especially second half. We played some really good stuff, scored some really good goals. It was a good three points and nine for the week, so we keep building and keep moving on.
“We’re creating a lot of chances, so it’s about time we started putting a few past teams. Now we’re doing that, so hopefully we can continue and take it into the new year.”
On winning for Mario
“It was a very difficult moment for Mario and the team. When one suffers, we all suffer. Obviously, our thoughts are with Mario and hopefully the Everton performance we put in will make him feel a bit better.
“Our main focus was for Mario. Some things are more important than football and that was definitely one of them. I’m glad we could get the three points and I send all my thoughts to him and his family in a difficult moment.”
