Internationals | November games conclude

Hee Chan Hwang helped South Korea maintain their perfect start to World Cup qualification with victory over China on Tuesday.

He, Matt Doherty and Sasa Kalajdzic were the final Old Gold players in international action, with Gary O’Neil now set to welcome back his full squad for the remainder of 2023.

The Republic of Ireland drew with New Zealand, while Austria beat Germany in a friendly, with both Wolves men featuring, while Tom King was an unused substitute for Wales and Fabio Silva featured for Portugal's under-21s.

Hee Chan Hwang | China 0-3 South Korea

After victory over Singapore last time out, Hwang and South Korea continued their winning start to World Cup qualification on Tuesday. The Wolves man started on the left against China and played 72 minutes, as Jurgen Klinsmann’s side cruised to victory. It was Hwang who was fouled for the opening goal, with Son Heung-min scoring from the penalty spot. The Tottenham Hotspur man added a second, before Seung-hyun Jung wrapped the win up with three minutes to go. South Korea are next in action in January in the AFC Asian Cup.

Sasa Kalajdzic | Austria 2-0 Germany

Austria already had their place in Euro 2024 secured by the time they faced Germany in an international friendly on Tuesday. Wolves’ Kalajdzic had a watching brief from the bench initially, as Marcel Sabitzer put Ralf Rangnick's team ahead and Christoph Baumgartner sealed the win. With nine minutes remaining the Wolves forward was introduced for his fourth international appearance in two months. He helped Austria see out the win against 10-man Germany.

Matt Doherty | Republic of Ireland 1-1 New Zealand

After deploying a back three last week, the Republic of Ireland reverted to a back four against New Zealand, seeing Doherty move to right-back. Following a disappointing Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, where Ireland missed out on Germany, they did take the lead on Tuesday through Adam Idah. However, the visitors earned a draw thanks to Matthew Garbett.

Tom King | Wales 1-1 Turkey

King was an unused substitute as Wales missed out on automatic qualification to Euro 2024. For a brief period, after Nico Williams had put Wales ahead and Croatia were being held, Wales were heading to Germany. However, once Croatia took the lead against Armenia, Wales were up against it. A Turkey equaliser confirmed their fate and they’ll compete in the play-offs next year.

Fabio Silva | Greece U21s 2-1 Portugal U21s

Finally, Fabio Silva came off the bench as Portugal under-21s lost 2-1 to Greece. It was Portugal’s first defeat of the campaign for Euro Under-21 qualification, after they started with four wins from four. Francisco Conceicao put Portugal ahead, but Greece fought back through Christos Tzolis and Michalis Panagidis. Silva featured for the final 29 minutes but couldn’t reverse the result.
