Hwang | 'After the penalty, I really wanted to do something'

Hee Chan Hwang was pleased he was able to get redemption for giving away a first half penalty to score the equalising goal in a well-earned point against Newcastle United at Molineux.

The South Korean felt he was hard done by when he was adjudged to have caught Fabian Schar in the box when he attempted to clear the ball, but he was able to more than make up for it when he skilfully dispatched his sixth Premier League goal of the campaign following brilliant work from Toti in the build-up.

On taking a point against Newcastle

“I feel a little bit strange. After I gave them a penalty, I felt so sad and I genuinely wanted to do something for my team.

“Then I scored again, so I was very happy that I was able to help my team.”

On redeeming himself

“After the first half, my teammates came to me and they gave me their trust. Everybody came to me and said, ‘You can do it, you can do it. Keep going, keep going’.

“Everybody was giving me their trust and I felt so lifted, and after that, I really wanted to do something.”

On the penalty

“It's very difficult to say after the game about the penalty situation, but I felt I was just clearing the ball, but I saw someone blocked me when I tried to kick the ball.

“After that, I just stopped and I think he touched me, I don’t even know exactly, but I don’t think it was a penalty.

“But the referee did the decision and all I could do was just try to do something to help the team, so I was happy that I scored the goal.”

On a sixth goal in a row at Molineux

“This record is a very big honour for me. But every goal I score comes from my team, and we work very hard and we understand each other very well.

“So, I want to say thank you to my teammates and to the fans.”
