Internationals | Call ups for Cunha and Hugo Bueno

The first international period of the 2023/24 season will see 13 members of Gary O’Neil’s squad represent their countries over the next week.

Matheus Cunha returns to the Brazil squad for the first time this year, while Hugo Bueno has received the call for Spain’s under-21 group for the first time and new signing Santiago Bueno joins the Uruguay squad.

Four Old Gold players will link up with Portugal, with Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo, Toti and Pedro Neto all called up for Euro 2024 qualifying matches with Slovakia and Luxembourg.

Also in Euro 2024 qualifying action are the Republic of Ireland and Matt Doherty has been named in their squad for a double header with France and Holland.

Fresh from scoring against Crystal Palace, Hee Chan Hwang will be with the South Korea group but in the UK, as they prepare for international friendlies with Wales in Cardiff and Saudia Arabia in Newcastle.

In the opposite camp in Cardiff will be Tom King, who is with the Wales group for the South Korea clash, as well as a friendly with Latvia on Monday.

For Cunha, he’s back with Brazil for World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru, both away from home on Friday and Tuesday.

Santiago Bueno joined Wolves just last week, but quickly heads to Uruguay for a World Cup qualifier with Chile, before they travel to Ecuador for the second fixture this weekend.

Gabon are in Africa Cup of Nations action on Saturday, for their one and only fixture this round against Mauritius and Mario Lemina has once again been included in their squad.

Involved in the same qualification process for the Africa Cup of Nations is Rayan Ait-Nouri and Algeria, who face Tanzania and Senegal either side of the weekend.

Hugo Bueno has been called up to the Spain under-21 group for the fist time and he’ll hope to make his debut against either Malta on Friday or Scotland on Monday.

Finally, Fabio Silva is with Portugal's under-21s again, and their European qualifying matches come against Andorra and Belarus.
