Fabio Silva will wear the iconic Wolves number nine shirt for the 2023/24 season after his squad number was changed ahead of this weekend’s visit to Crystal Palace.
The striker has been wearing the number 29 since returning to the club in pre-season, but after impressing Gary O’Neil with his performances in both training and in the Old Gold’s competitive fixtures so far this campaign, the Portuguese has been rewarded with his new number.
He will follow in the footsteps of some of the club’s most memorable strikers of the modern era to don the number nine shirt, including Steve Bull, John Richards, Derek Dougan, Andy Gray, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Raul Jimenez.
Silva is not the only Wolves player to have changed their number this season, with Wolves Academy graduates Hugo Bueno taking on the number 17 and Joe Hodge switching to 32.
Wolves’ three latest additions to the squad, Enso Gonzalez, Santiago Bueno and Tommy Doyle have also confirmed their squad numbers, taking on 30, four and 20 respectively.
