Captain Maximilian Kilman felt Wolves were punished for not taking their first-half chances when a disastrous spell after the break saw Brighton & Hove Albion run away with the points from Molineux.
Being well in the game in the opening 45 minutes having created but spurned several good chances, Wolves would have come out of half-time in high spirits in their first home match under new head coach Gary O’Neil, but three goals in quick succession for the Seagulls put them in an uncatchable lead.
But despite the result, Kilman is remaining upbeat about Wolves’ opportunity this season, and insists the players will be straight back on the training ground as they look to improve at both ends of the pitch ahead of a crunch clash with Everton next weekend.
On Brighton defeat
“It was an even game bar that 10-minute spell in the second-half. We started the game well and they are obviously a top side, but we still had chances to score.
“But we just didn’t take the chances that they did. I think the margins in football are really fine and we saw that today.
“We’ll be back on training in Monday and we’ll have our focus on finishing, but we’ve got a whole week to prepare for Everton.”
On conceding three goals straight after half-time
“They were all preventable, definitely. They had their spell of five minutes where we couldn’t control the game, and this is bad on us.
“But we need to focus again and go again for the next game.”
On areas to improve
“We can still take positives from the games because we’re creating chances and that’s the most important thing.
“But now we need to find the net in the next game and put the chances away in the back of the net.”
On learning O’Neil’s ways
“It’s been really good. It’s only been a few days, so we’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m confident in the whole team that we’re going to push through together and come on out in the good side.
“Of course, he’s different from the last manager, all managers are different, but we’ve only been working eight days with him, so we need to adapt and adjust to the new way we want to play.”
