Captain Maximilian Kilman praised the group for its togetherness over the past week, as Wolves changed head coach on the eve of the season but responded with an impressive showing on Monday evening.
The Old Gold were the better team against Manchester United and deserved something from the game, so despite falling to a 1-0 loss, Kilman took heart from what he saw. The players had four days to work with Gary O’Neil, but in that time the new head coach instilled his key ideas into the group and Kilman believes come Saturday, they’ll be even better prepared for the challenge Brighton & Hove Albion will pose.
On a positive showing at Old Trafford
“It was a crazy game, end to end stuff, and we had a lot of chances in the second half, so I thought we would have scored. We looked like a great side, considering we had four days with the new manager. Credit to everyone, we stuck to the game plan and worked really hard.
“We had a lot of chances, which at Old Trafford isn’t easy, and it’s something to build on. They were good opportunities, not half chances. Coming to Old Trafford is very difficult, against a top Man United side, so we’ve got to build and be ready for Saturday."
On adapting to the head coach change
“We worked so hard in pre-season and Gary came in and did a great job in the four days to prepare us. We were unfortunate not to finish our chances, but for big spells of the game we were the better side.
“Credit to Gary, he’s told us how he wants to play, and we stuck to the game plan and deserved more from the game.”
On remaining a solid group
“The boys have done brilliant to stay together. Whatever’s happened has happened, during pre-season there’s been a lot going on behind the scenes, but we’ve kept the group together, worked really hard in training and it showed. Lots of positives to build on and we go again.”
On the VAR decision
“I was right next to it and saw some clips after and I thought it was a penalty. Some decisions don’t go your way, but you need to look forward to the next game. The referees make their decisions and we have to respect that.”
